For our 14th experiment, we decided to start with a classic Belgian Red Ale, and add a hint of blueberry, which perfectly a complements the estery and clovey character of the Belgian abbey yeast,and the biscuit like flavour of the Maris Otter malt. For the last remaining few cases of this batch that have been blissfully maturing for 4 years, we re-pitched with Brettanomyces Bruxellensis and matured for another year. This led to a wonderfully light bodied, mildly sour, FUNKY and very refreshing beer: the limited edition bronze top was born!

All our beers are bottle conditioned, which means that active yeast is included in every bottle. This leads to a rounder, more balanced profile, and allows the beer to mature and mellow over time. Whether or not you choose to pour the yeasty sediment in your glass is up to you, but we certainly like it!

Beer style:
Belgian Reds have a strong malt character with a slight refreshing sourness. They are generally fermented dry, and any fruity estery notes are mild and not very pronounced. These are NOT fruit beers! The Brettanomyces brings a healthy dose of FUNK, making it difficult to find a similar commercial example.

This beer has been aged to 5+ years in a cellar and inoculated with Brettanomyces Bruxellensis.
