Sencha Tea Rye IPA, cuveé 2021

21,00 - 75,00

Everyone likes an IPA and especially a rye IPA! For our 11th experiment, we decided to breathe some excitement into this popular style, by adding Sencha tea. Sencha tea is green tea with a unique pine-like flavour that perfectly complements the earthy notes of the rye, and the floral, citrus aroma of the New World hops. Sencha also changes the bitterness profile, making this a unique IPA. But that's not all the tea does: If you observe closely, you may notice a slight green tint on the foam!

All our beers are bottle conditioned, which means that active yeast is included in every bottle. This leads to a rounder, more balanced profile, and allows the beer to mature and mellow over time. Whether or not you choose to pour the yeasty sediment in your glass is up to you, but we certainly like it!

Beer style:
IPA (India Pale Ales) are typically highly hopped with a bitter taste and a strong hop aroma. Rye IPAs also include rye along with the barley, providing an earthy aroma and slightly more bitter taste. Other dutch commercial examples of rye IPAs include the Jopen Jacobus RPA, and the limited edition Rye IPA from 't Ij.

This beer has been aged to 2+ years in a cellar. Even though IPAs are traditionally consumed fresh, the rye and natural protective properties of the green tea has resulted in a much subtler beer, that consistently beats the fresh variant in tastes tests. For this reason, we decided to only offer this beer aged!
